MCC Lady Highlanders Explode on offense
McLennan Softball picked up a pair of run-rule victories over LSU-Eunice this afternoon to get its first doubleheader sweep of the young season.
McLennan took game one 12-4 with Cheyenne Floyd getting the in the circle.
LSU-Eunice scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Maddie Leal reached first safely and advanced to second on an error. Madison Prejean also reached on an error, bringing Leal in to scored. Prejean then advanced to third on a ground out by Maci Baldwin and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cendall Barton. Madison Diaville followed with a triple and scored on a single by Ashlyn Roach.
McLennan responded with six runs in the bottom of the first. Caitlin Bradley-Tse singled and Caitlyn Wong doubled, both scoring on a double by Erin Plunkett. Hailey Hudson and Julia Herzinger both walked, loading the bases. Jenny Robison followed with a grand slam over the right-field fence.
Another McLennan run scored in the second. Bradley-Tse singled, Wong walked and Plunkett singled to load the bases. Hudson followed with a single to score Bradley-Tse.
LSU-Eunice added a run in the third as Diaville singled, advanced to second on a ground out by Roach and came in to score on a McLennan error.
McLennan sealed the run rule with five runs in the fifth. Robison lead off with a solo home run. Ka’Lyn Watson was safe on a dropped third strike, and Bradley-Tse was safe on an error. Wong walked to load the bases. Plunkett followed with a single to sore Watson and Bradley-Tse. Rachel Warren replaced Wong as the runner at second. Warren then stole third and scored on a single by Hudson. Herzinger then singled to score Plunkett, ending the game.
McLennan dominated the second game, getting the 14-1 run-rule win to complete the sweep. Anissa Arredondo picked up the win in the circle.
McLennan exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the first. Bradley-Tse singled and Warren walked. Wong followed with a three-run homer. Plunkett walked and Jalie Neff singled. Riley Rutherford then singled to score Plunkett. Robison followed with a single to triple to score Neff and Rutherford. Maddie Saven tripled to score Robison, and Bradley-Tse reached on an error, allowing Saven to score.
Six more McLennan runs scored in the second. Neff and Robison both singled. Bradley-Tse reached on another error, allowing Neff to score. Warren walked, and Sydney Kirby singled to score Robison. Plunkett followed with a grand slam over the left-center field fence.
LSU-Eunice’s only run came in the top of the fifth as Leal walked and scored on a double by Emily Hoover.
McLennan continues non-conference play Friday, traveling to Brenham for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Blinn.
